My trip to the Tate
To start I believe it is always important to give credit to the equipment used in creating my images and so, the camera I used was a nickon D3300. I started off at shooters hill and decided to start shooting photos as soon as I walked out of the front door; this lead to me taking pictures of the front garden leading up the street to the bus stop. I did not take many pictures once on the bus as the view out of the video wasn't very clear due to the windows being frosty and therefore, the quality of the pictures would of been low. As I got to the train station I took a couple of photos and whilst on the train only took a few pictures. This was again hard as the train moves very quickly and the pictures after came out blury when taken whilst moving however, I still managed to take some nice pictures of landscapes and buildings that had intriguing shapes in them. Once off of the train I continued to take pictures along my way to the entrance of the Tate. Once at the Tate I capture many pictures inside of people enjoying art and having a good day. I also decided to take some pictures of art as I believe it is important to observe and give gratitude to good art. On the way back from the Tate I walked a different way from the way I went in the morning and so this gave me the opportunity to take more photos that were completely different to the ones previously taken. After being on the underground it was dark outside and so I could not capture as many images as I would have liked to but I still took a few on the road I started on. I set out to take pictures of people just enjoying themselves so it makes my pictures have a warm vibe. I also wanted to find loads of interesting spaces and colours that might go well in a dypticks. I feel like whilst waiting for public transport and at the Tate I did this as there are many pictures of people doing everyday things; having fun with friends or family. However, at the very start and ending of the trip I only really captured landscapes. Some of these landscapes are quite nice pictures and fit into the other catergory of photos I wanted to take however, are not of the criteria I set out for myself. Whlist taking my images I was thinking about the advise Nick Wapplington give the photography class which was to photography everything you think might be interesting in a few years time and also to just have fun with it.
Here are a few of my favourite pictures that I have selected from my 147 photos that I had taken throughout the day. The reason I have selected these photos over the others is because I believe the lighting and quality of some of these photos are better than the ones not selecteed. Some of the photographs I did not select was because of the lighting for example, the picture may have been over exposed. Some photos were also slightly out of focus or simply did not fit the style I wanted for these photos. Within the photos I have selected there are a lot of blues, reds and yellows which are quite interesting as when I put my pictures together side by side as dypticks they will go together really well and compliment each other.
Whilst at the Tate I also decided it was important to observe and look at the work of other artist not only for my enjoyment but because I like the educational aspect of being able to see why a artist decided to create something and the ideas behind the pictures. A artist who caught my eye more than once was Salvador Dali. His oil paintings really stood out to me as I was intrigued by the colours in the paining as well as the way the style of the painting looked. In the Autumnal cannibalism painting the photo evokes many emotions from despair to joy. This is because at first you see a couple kissing and then when you realise they are eating each other and so you feel sicken by their actions. The couple are also so caught up in the monstrous actions they are doing that they are unable to look at the world around them and realise that there is a war going on. This may be because they are doing more outrageous things than the war and are caught up in their own actions meaning they do not care about what is going on around them. In the Metamorphosis of Narcissus the painting creates emotions of sadness and dispairas. Narcuissus fell in love with his reflection but pined because he could not be with him. The gods then immortalised him into a flower. However, him being turned into a flower creates some happiness as now others get to enjoy the beauty that he love and saw in himself when looking at his reflection.
Some other artists work I also really enjoyed were William Gear, Ibrahim El-Salahi, Rene Magritte, Jane Alexander and espically the work of Babel.
