Why do people take/make photographs?
People take photographs for many different reasons. One of the main reasons I believe people take photographs is to capture the moment. Moments happen very fast and taking a picture freezes the moment giving people time to enjoy it. Freezing and capturing the moment also provides a picture of a memory; this is enjoyed by many people as we get to re-live some of the best parts of our life through a picture. Another reason why I believe people take photos is to tell a story or communicate with other people. Photography does this as it allows you to express yourself through a image. What I mean by express yourself is being able to show things through your point of view. Using the camera lens as your eye and creating an image for people to look at and come up with ideas of what they think you might be trying to say through the image. For example, Michael Kenna is a photographer who extracts colour from all of his images; in my opinion, he does this so people look deeper into the image and beyond the use of colour. He does this so people not only get a mood and atmosphere from the warmth of colour but so they look at the structure of the object he is photographing. This allows him to express himself as it shows he is different from everyone else as he doesn't use colour and he wants everyone to appreciate the world like he does by seeing what is underneath the colour.

Why is photography important?
Photography is important for a number of reasons; pictures play a very important role in society. Photography allows people to express themselves and show people what is important to them. This is done by capturing specific moments or objects that tell a story or have a specific meaning behind them. Photography also allows us to preserve history, this is good for new generations as they can see how the world evolves. Photography also enables people to become artists and have a job doing something they love. An example of this is Luke Brooks, he is a not a well known photographer and post most of his images on instagram but I enjoy his work as he interprets himself and friends into photgraphs as well as taking pictures of intriguing moments. Examples of his work:

What skills do you need to be a good photographer?
Skills you may need to be a photographer are begin creative and having a good eye for shape, angles, colour and form this is because it will make your images interesting and enjoyable for people to look at. Another skill you need to acquire is being flexible with the camera meaning you do not keep capturing similar or the same images. You also need to be patient and concentrate a lot so that you do not get frustrated when a image you wanted to produce does not come out perfect the first couple of times you try and create it. A good artist to look at if you would like to see someone be creative is Martin Parr this is because he produces images that have a sense of humor and will often make people laugh.

How does photography help us see the world?
The photographer wants us to see the world from their angle and they do this by capturing moments that show us specifically what they wanted us to see. Therefore, photography helps us see different parts of the world we might never get to see personally which helps us to understand different cultures and how different society is all over the world. Photos to represent how cultures are different:

Can photographic images be trusted?
Many images are edited on software like Photoshop meaning the image is distorted and not the same as the image captured by the camera. This means that images cannot always be trusted as they are often changed. The pictures below are all enhanced digital images edited to create a unrealistic effect. The one of the couple makes it look like a fairy tail wedding and also make the colours in the image stand out more. The photo of the little girl looks like she has no body and this is due to good editing.

What are the similarities and differences between photography and other types of visual art?
One similarity between videography and photography is the same or similar equipment is used to capture the images however, a difference is that one is a still picture and the other moves. Drawing also have a similarity to photography as both artist are capturing and creating a still image. A difference between photography and drawing is one uses a camera and more technical equipment where as, the other just requires a pencil and paper.

When would it not be okay to take a photograph?
It would not be okay for a photographer to take photos at inappropriate time such as, at a funeral unless the photographer had permission or was asked to do so. Also if confrontation is taking place or people are in distress as this may aggravate the situation more.

How do you know when you have made a good photograph?
In my opinion, I believe I have taken a good photograph when the colours compliment each other and the message I wanted to send is clear. Also when the object you wanted to stand out is the focal point of the picture with everything else enhancing that particular thing. Another way I know I have taken a good photograph is when it is eye catching and I want to keep looking at it or compare the quality of other photos to that one. Here are some more of Luke Brooks' photos that suggest the things I have implied need to be in a picture to create a good photograph.

Are photographer also artists?
I believe photographers are artist as they create pieces of art that require good technique to get a good quality image. They have to consider what lens to use, if the lighting is right, what angle to take the photo at etc. Photographs are also analysed and viewed by audiences just like drawings and paintings and so I do think photographers are artists.

Where is the best place to see photography?
I believe that the internet is the best place to see photographs as it has every type of photograph you could imagine on there which gives you a very wide range. You can also see the difference between amateur photographers and professional photographers which may help you to improve the quality of your photos. One problem with the internet is that people may have edited or enhanced their photos which makes them not as enjoyable sometime. However, I do believe that if you truly want to enjoy the photography then a gallery or exhibition is the best place to view photography as you will enjoy it more in person.

What kind of photography interests you the most?
The photography that interests me the most are landscape and nature this is because I think capturing the sun rising and setting is one of the most amazing things. It also makes the photograph look really nice as the colours make the photo look incredible. I also enjoy taking pictures of nature as it shows that the most simple things in life are beautiful.

What confuses or frustrates you about photography?
Something that frustrates me about photography is a camera can never capture how beautiful something is in real life. The eye of the camera does not justify what you see with the human eye. Another thing that frustrates me about photography is when people edit their photos so much that the image looks unrealistic.
